Spotlight: Scattered Remnants - "Destined to Fail"

I'm trying a new segment here where once a day I shine the spotlight on an album that I feel is either underappreciated, underrated, slept on, or all of the above. The first entry in this group is the 1998 full length by Massachusetts death metal outfit Scattered Remnants, "Destined to Fail." Along with Eternal Suffering, Internal Bleeding, Suffocation, and Mortal Decay, Scattered Remnants combined the heaviness and extremity of death metal with the pummeling east coast slam and incorporated some curveball elements including melody and even hints of goth rock. After releasing the "Procreating Mass Carnage" demo in '94 and the "Inherent Perversion" demo in '95, "Destined to Fail" cemented the band's position as one of the dominant and most influential east coast death metal bands of the 1990s. Throughout the remainder of the 90s and into the early 2000s the style Scattered Remnants helped define would dominate the underground death metal landscape and their influence can be heard on albums like "Destroy the Opposition" and "Foreshadowing Our Demise" that brought east coast death metal into the forefront of the underground.
