Independent music certainly benefitted from the 1985 collaboration between Kira Roessler (Black Flag) and Mike Watt (Minutemen) that resulted in Dos. Kira's freestyle jazz-inspired bass playing and Mike Watt's signature experimentation represented the best characteristics of independent music that is genre transcending rather than genre abiding. This relaxed and free artistic expression is as revealing as it is honest, a truly inspired vision without a mission statement or an agenda.
