Sigur Rós – Óveður

Sigur Rós – Óveður

An almost entirely perfect track. The track begins very unlike any of Sigur Rós sound. It sounds extremely ominous and dark, almost scary. With noisy swells and chest rumbling bass thumping, this track sets itself up to take you on an emotionally deranged journey. Once the vocals come in around 25 seconds- it goes back to the beautiful mix of triumphant but sad sounding progressions you're used to from this band, while keeping the ominous background noises/beats. This track is vital to my mindset lately as well as the new material I'm writing. Anything too concrete can come off cheesy. This song has the perfect array of ingredients to it that makes you always wanting more.

However, from 2:39- the end? I cannot stomach the overwhelming gun click sample for a snare. It completely ruins the build up and overall song. I have heard up to that point hundreds of times the last several weeks, but I always stop it at that point. It sounds like a really bad rap song a 14 year old made with Fruity Loops on his mother's dial up internet connection while eating Cheetos.

I know you won't, but I'm going to tell you to check this out anyway. It's much better than whatever you planned to listen to/do so just do it.
