Long Time No Read

    Hi.
I haven't been blogging because I've been doing some things in the real world. Here are some things I just discovered in the last few months that I've been digging a lot.

Tera Melos- Trash Generator - [2017]
I feel foolish for not getting into this band sooner! Anyone I thought would be really into this had already heard of it. I was brand new to them and got the chance to see them live at Mahall's in Lakewood a few weeks ago. Blew my fucking mind! As an avid musician - I tend to be the most impressed initially by technicality or unique sounds. Depending on how well those tones and technicalities are arranged dictates how long/far I'll dive into that band.

Put simply: these dudes write really great songs that no one else ever has or will. It's exactly what makes a great band for me. Just as catchy as it is unique. I can't recommend this album and band enough!

Monolord - Rust - [2017]
Anyone who isn't familiar with Monolord needs to stop reading shitty Cleveland blogs and listen to more music. Their previous album"Vænir" was the perfect blend of some of the meanest riffs coupled in with some of the most contagious grooves to come out of the last decade. This album veers a way a bit from its predecessor, mainly in the way it was produced. The last album had a very warm kick drum throughout, with guitars that sliced through all the lows and the highs with ease. This one has a lot more mid range, so it sounds a little louder but doesn't quite bite down as hard as the last.

The description of bands like these are honestly not anything out of the ordinary, but the production and live show of Monolord is truly another level. They're tight as fucking nails live. The amount of eye contact and focus each member had when I saw them several months back almost impressed me more than the sheer dynamics they were playing at. They didn't notice they were playing in front of people. They had this other wordly type stare the entire time. It was fantastic.

Chelsea Wolfe- Hiss Spin [2017]
This is hands down the most listened  recent album for me this year. Seeing that it just came out a few months ago, that's saying a lot! This album is the perfect blend of heavy and spooky. Some bands lean too far in either direction and lose me. Chelsea's voice on top of some of the dissonant chords and feedback make this such a genuinely deep and amazing record. I was lucky enough to catch the first show of their most recent American tour at Amoeba records in Hollywood. With bright fluorescent lights and a tiny ass stage - these guys still completely killed it.

I was relatively new to Chelsea's material. It wasn't until I read the live band that I really dove in. Holy shit! Already being a huge Fred Sablan and Troy Van Leeuwen fan, this was a no brainer to at very least check out. Just about anything those guys touch turns to ear gold.

My favorite album of 2017 by a landslide!

There. That wasn't so bad, was it? Now quit just reading about this shit and go listen out and buy these!
