Currently Inflencial

I've been on a creative rampage lately, mainly recording other bands, but also playing a lot of my own material with a live band. I usually start all my songs by writing them on bass, which doesn't always yield the colorful, wide results of starting on guitar or drums. Lately it's been all guitars and it's been very similar to the album I'm going to blab about.

My Bloody Valentine- Loveless
This one is the most directly influential album as of late. By no means can anyone simply replicate their sound without it being super obvious, but this album is a staple in shoegaze tones and style. All too often people rip off bands with unique sounds rather than hunting for their own, which is by no means what I'm doing lately. I tend to write opposite of the musical style I'm currently crushing on, but lately it should be pretty obvious that My Bloody Valentine hasn't left my car stereo in weeks.

The guitars on this album swallow you whole. It unfortunately doesn't leave much room for the drums in the mix, but in a band like this - it's not super important to have booming, centered drums. The layering of guitars, the sheer volume of the mixes, and the smoothness of the vocals makes this album an instant inspiration.
